Perspective.....

It's raining here at the moment - funny that - it's Toowoomba, so that's really quite normal. I'm working at the cafe until 3 today, Darren heads off to the coast this arvo for a Rotary convention and Benjamin has band prac. then basketball tonight. So at this stage I think I'm 'batching'....for tonight anyway.
Have just heard that a friend has, this morning, found out his cancer has spread and that there is nothing more that can really be done for him. The irony is that he is going to be worth millions of dollars shortly - a project he's been working on for almost 18 years is about to finally be realised. He's a very thoughtful fella, always helping people out - just an allround decent bloke. His wife has cancer also and they will have been married 25 years at the end of this month.

Things like this make you really thankful for what you have, who you have and where you are in life. Life's not meant to be perfect - and mine definitely isn't. I don't own a home and I'm not a millionaire but I do have a great job, a great family and at this moment, I have my health. That's perfect enough for me....

BG - Year 12 Mass

A new start + 40th bash

20, 30, 40... Made it! My blog has gone by the wayside for a few weeks - lots happening - primarily my 40th!

Carmen and me

Thursday/Friday 26th and 27th February saw my best friend meet her Dad for the first time in 26 years. The fantastic bunch of people from 'Find My Family' filmed for 2 days at my home and at Picnic Point here in Toowoomba and by lunch time on the Friday Carmen had met her Dad. (But this is her story, not mine, so won't go into the many details that it all involved. Suffice to say that's how my birthday weekend began, so it really was a couple of huuuuge days).

Carmen and 'Dad'

Saturday night we all (including Brett, Carmen's Dad) headed off to 'Fibbers' (Irish pub) - with balloons in tow. I knew where we were going, but didn't know who was coming, so it ended up being a great night - softball friends, muso friends, other friends I've met through Carmen (which are numerous!), friends of Darren's from work and of course Darren's twins Teen and Melissa. (Oh!! Benjamin, Damo and Ryan came also but weren't allowed to be in the area where we were. For some reason, as it was a smoking area, under 18's couldn't be there...so after a bit of a chat and a few photos off they went to the next party they had on the list)

Darren and Robyn

Tahlia, Dave, Jo-anne and me

An awesome night and as usual I was in bed early. About 9pm a good friend said 'Gosh Denise! You're still awake... what's going on!' Well, an hour and a half later I was in bed and sleep definitely came easy after a fantastic night (albeit an early one).....
