7 years ago this weekend gone Darren, Benjamin and I went to Coffs Harbour for a week. (Darren bought the holiday at a cancer fundraiser). We had an awesome time - we all still remember it (especially the DODGY road through Woodenbong which started an annoying continuous 'squeak' in the Subaru...maye annoying is not the right word).
This weekend we headed to Brisbane for Barry's 60th Saturday night and decided to stay another night - how cool to wake up on a Monday morning and it's not a work day! We were so lucky - late booking Friday on Wotif and scored a fantastic boutique hotel only opened 5 weeks ago. (Free plug - Portal Hotel in Spring Hill) We were the first to stay in our room and it really was lovely - huge bed. We aren't used to a king size.... you really think you're sleeping on your own, you're that far away from the other person. Massive TV, drinkable-non International Roast coffee sachets, quiet....all that... The restaurant attached was probably the nicest I've been to - or rather the layout-aesthetic appeal blah blah blah was the nicest I've seen - unreal. Yes, as usual, we had a fantastic bottle of red - Chapel Hill Shiraz Grenache 2005 - awesome. We did lots of walking, and LOTS of it UPhill too. Spent a fair while at Roma St. parklands just watching and enjoying the afternoon unfold. This included a bride and bagpipes playing somewhere off in the distance....was nice.
Benjamin spent the weekend at Bribie Island with Ryan and they stayed with Braiden. I think they had a good time, Benjamin's a boy of few words. Tragically this weekend his friends were involved in a car accident which killed 2 of them and left 3 on life support. This is day 5 and still no more word on how the boys are going - I haven't seen Benjamin cry for many many years so it was heartbreaking seeing him so upset the other night. He is so lucky - he has so many good friends to get through this all. Somehow it divides the grief.....
